Assistance League of the Eastside is a force for good in our community.

Financial hardship can affect any family. We help students in need right here in our community by holding shopping events at Fred Meyer stores and inviting children pre-selected by personnel from the Bellevue, Lake Washington, and Northshore school districts. Our funds let these kids shop for new clothes, shoes, and coats. It is our belief that new school clothing will contribute to a child’s self-esteem and successful school experience.

In Their Own Words

This was our first time being invited to this event at Fred Meyer and it was awesome. For my 12-year-old, I was able to purchase much-needed hiking shoes, gloves, fleece, and socks. Now on her outdoor outings, I won’t have to worry about her getting wet and cold.

As superintendent of the Lake Washington School District, I cannot emphasize enough my support for the work of Assistance League of the Eastside. For many years, students have directly benefited from the incredible Operation School Bell program, which provides new school clothing to individual students in need. Our students get the opportunity to shop for and select their own clothing, boosting their level of confidence and preparation for school. Assistance League of the Eastside directly supports our district vision of ‘Every Student Future Ready’ by helping to fulfill students’ most basic needs in the present, enabling students to come to school ready to learn, grow, and prepare for their future. It is with much enthusiasm and gratitude that I support and endorse Assistance League of the Eastside.

Community partners Make a Difference

We appreciate the strong partnerships we have with school districts on the Eastside, whose personnel identify the most vulnerable children in our community.

The extraordinary support from the local managers at the Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond Fred Meyer stores helps us achieve several shopping nights in the Fall and again, in the Spring. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of thousands of children.

"We are so grateful for the amazing partnership we have had with the Assistance League of the Eastside for the past several years. The difference they make in the lives of children and families throughout Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland is truly remarkable and we continuously hear from our associates and customers how much they appreciate all that this organization is doing for their local communities. Thank you!"

Dr. Mark DiRe has supported Assistance League of the Eastside for more than 20 years. This year alone, he generously donated 4000 dental kits – one for every student participating in Operation School Bell. We believe that new school clothing can bring out the smile in a child. Dr. DiRe wants to make sure those smiles are healthy smiles!

Grants are an important source of funding for our programs. We appreciate the grants from the following organizations that have been specifically targeted to support Operation School Bell.

In fiscal year 2014/2015, we were deeply honored to be the recipient of a Rubens Family Foundation grant of $500,000. This grant is has allowed us to clothe an additional 1000 students for the past two years and for each of the next two years. Words cannot express the difference they have made in the lives of thousands of children.
